AFFIRMATIVE ACTION
Affirmative action (U.S. English), or Positive Discrimination (British English), is a policy or a program of giving certain preferences to certain (usually "under-represented") groups. This typically focuses on education, employment, government contracts, health care, or social welfare. It favors minorities and women in hiring and in admissions to universities in an attempt to compensate for past discrimination. Positive discrimination is illegal under U.K. law.

Read the following 2 excerpts and write a reflection based on the question that follows:

Welcome to the first online discussion for your General Paper module on Prejudice and Discrimination. This week, you may choose to participate in this Post #1 (Genocide) or Post #2 (Developments) or both!

Genocide in the 20th Century

In class, your teacher will have shared with you articles to do with the nature of prejudice and perhaps asked you to analyse an extract from Hitler's 'Mein Kampf'. (Read the full text here.) This is just the very tip of the iceberg when it comes to how much racial hatred there has been in the 20th Century.

As we enter a new century, let us look back at the blood-filled century we left behind. How well do you know this century and what motivated nations to commit widespread killing with the intention to wipe out an entire race, also known as the genocide?

Your task in this post is to help build up the class' pool of knowledge about incidences of genocide in the 20th century or earlier. Each member of the class should do some investigation and MAKE A COMMENT POST OF 1 GENOCIDE EPISODE and each person should also post 1 REPLY to any classmate's post commenting with your personal thoughts on their post or adding more information and links to their post.

In your comment post, please follow this format (you may cut and paste):
